On April 21 JOY Katara gave birth to 8 babies sired by JOY Sokka.  There are 5 girls and 3 boys, all of whom have now been reserved or adopted.  All the babies are either Aussie Cinnamon selfs or Irish, with a mix of both dumbo and standard ears.  Even Jackie's brilliant photography barely does justice to this stunning new color, originally imported from Australia.  As far as we know, Small Joys Rattery is the first rattery in Canada to be working with it.  If you are interested in future litters of this type, and we do have several planned, please email me  More information on our Australian Cinnamon line can be found here.  Just scroll down until you find the variety you are looking for.

Note: Aussie Cinnamons start out a pale blond color and morph into the stunning color you see on the adults.

What's in a name?

These babies were born just in time for Spring roses to be blooming, so they have been named after varieties of roses.

Meet JOY Charlotte - Charlotte is a very friendly, playful and active Australian Cinnamon girl, born April 21, 2013.  Charlotte was originally reserved by a breeder but it was discovered that she has a small umbilical hernia, which means she should not be bred.  In many cases an umbilical hernia will disappear on it's own as the rat matures, or become so slight it doesn't bother them at all.  In some cases it may require a surgical repair.  We always advise that our adopters spay their female rats, so if necessary, this is something that could easily be done at the same time as a spay.  Charlotte, who seems completely unaffected by this minor problem, has now found a wonderful pet home, along with a russian blue rex girl from another litter.
